I want to get my brother a pet?

He wan'ts a lizard but he can't sleep with a light on. He won't listen to me when I try to tell him this. He'll be 10 years old when I get him the pet. I think he should get a hamster. Any small pet that doesn't need a heating lamp? NO FISH OR BIRDS OR HERMIT CRABS! Thanks
