I have told him i like him but what now ?!?

I've liked him before but this time its different , we know each other really well and talk a lot too ! were in the same form have some cles together he's funny smart good looking and is such a lovely person i cant believe he doesn't have a girlfriend , he hasn't had one for 2 years but the thing is he is all this and is obviously "popular" in more ways than one , he flirts with quite a few girls but i cant tell if its just friendly :L anyway after talking loads of a week break i finally told him I liked him (over text ) he said " AWW cool :D ... i didn't know that :D " so i replied well you learn something everyday i feel like such an idiot ETC ETC . but he said don't say that your not an idiot at all so I asked who he liked but he wouldn't tell me he explained he didn't like 1 person in particular he just thinks people are "nice" ... so now its not awkward at all in fact we might be a bit closer which I didn't expect ... he seems to start more conversations with me and want to be around me at school while in front of his friends as well as mine . I just don't know where i stand or if he likes me at all or what to do ... I even turned down this lovely lad who asked me out a little after all this because I like this person so much ! ... what can i do ?!
